ABOUT THE ROLE We are looking for an Intellectual Property (IP) Professional who will exercise seasoned judgment and provide guidance to business and functional leaders across the organization for performing a variety of Intellectual Property (IP) matters, including patent and other IP searches and third-party IP investigations and analyses. The output of these analyses will drive identification of risks for potential opposition, as well as opportunities for acquisition/licensing partners. The work products will be shared with the respective IP Law team members and relevant business colleagues in Law, Product, Consumer, and the M&A team. YOUR ’DAY TO DAY’ • Based on IP Law needs, business feedback/requests, or pro-active initiative, examine and study competitive patent portfolios to learn more about third-party innovations and publications to assess potential strength, vulnerabilities, and scope. • Analyze and assess data from various internal and external sources to drive recommendations relevant to identify potential IP risks, resulting in opposition workstreams and other risk mitigation. • Identify potential partners or acquisition targets in various technological fields, either proactively in specific technology and product areas or based on requests from internal partners. • Given the known PMI product roadmaps and required future technologies, analyze and identify the main competitors and determine potential future risks and opportunities. • Based on requests from cross-department internal PMI partners, conduct focused searches on companies and/or technology areas of interest to evaluate the scope and strength of the IP of potential partners or acquisition targets. • Support all IP Law processes for creating, organizing, and maintaining collections of third-party patents and/or of patent landscapes, search results and IP intelligence data. • Establish relationships and engage with IP vendors, search firms or other third parties to conduct or assist in the landscape analysis or search, and/or to assist in the gathering or assessment of IP intelligence from various sources. • Carry out all activities of the ensuring that PMI Compliance Policies, standards, and laws relating to these activities are fully respected, integrated and understood by stakeholders, and implement adequate processes to ensure the protection of information of a confidential nature. WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR • Ability to learn and fully understand a broad base of technologies relevant to PMI. • Ability to rapidly analyze patent documents, identify relevant information and trends, and effectively communicate such information and trends to stakeholders. • Ability to deliver work results as project team member and from time to time manage focused projects individually in a timely and result-driven way. • Team player, able to build trusting relationships with international and cross-cultural and cross-functional stakeholders and colleagues. • Demonstrate a high degree of result orientation, drive, enthusiasm, and commitment towards achieving results and fulfilling objectives. • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, handle multiple priorities while managing a substantial workload and client expectations. • Ability to meet deadlines and project goals to ensure timely delivery of relevant and appropriate information with peers, IP colleagues/leadership and business partners such as Product, Life Sciences, Strategy, and Commercial teams. Knowledge and Experience Desired to Undertake this Role: • University/Engineering master’s degree / Ph.D. in science or technology or equivalent. Optionally, a law degree or patent attorney qualification or equivalent. • 5 to 10 years of concentrated experience in a legal department or law firm which demonstrate an in-depth knowledge and applied understanding of area of expertise. • Proven comfort with a broad base of different technologies and domains both at chemical, mechanical, and electronics areas. • Proven knowledge of IP Law and patent search systems and databases and IP management software. • Good command of English is a must combined with good writing skills.
